Recreation Baseball Division

Note: All Game days listed are tentative based on league size/number of teams.

Rookies

1st & 2nd Grades (primarily 1st)

The Rookie League is a non-competitive introduction to the game. It is intended for a wide range of abilities, including both experienced and first-time players.

  • We focus on having fun while teaching the fundamentals of the game: throwing, hitting, fielding, catching, basic game play, and sportsmanship.
  • Coaches pitch to batters with up to 10 players in the field on defense and all players in the batting order.
  • Outs will be enforced on bases, but score will not be kept, and balls & strikes will not be called. Just fun!
  • Games are 5 innings with no inning starting after 1.5 hours.
  • Inter-town play may occur with Long Hill and Green Brook.

Minors AA

2nd & 3rd Grades (primarily 2nd)

The AA Baseball League is open to both experienced and first-time players. Emphasis is placed on having fun, learning the fundamentals of the game, and beginning a transition to "real baseball". No standings, just fun!

  • This transitional level features a combination of coach and player pitching. To keep the game moving, players throw a maximum of 5 pitches per batter and then coach takes over pitching.
  • Pitching limits/ rules will be applied to ensure safety.
  • Ten players in the field and all players in the batting order. Balls and strikes will be called. Outs will be enforced. No stealing, but baserunners may advance a base on an overthrow.
  • Games are 6 innings with no inning starting after 1.75 hours.
  • Inter-town play may occur with Long Hill and Green Brook.

Minors AAA

3rd & 4th Grades

Focus is on continuing to learn the fundamentals of the game and having fun, while learning to compete. Scores and standings will be kept.

  • This level is player pitch.
  • Games played on 46/60 diamond.
  • Stealing and bunting allowed. No intentional walks.
  • Games are 6 innings with no inning starting after 1.75 hours.

Majors

5th & 6th Grades

Focus is on continuing to develop the fundamentals of the game, having fun in a competitive setting, and features more complete “real baseball” rules, such as leading and dropped 3rd strikes in play.

  • Stealing and bunting allowed.
  • Scores and standings will be kept.
  • Games played on 50/70 diamond.
  • Games are 6 innings with no inning starting after 1.75 hours. Some 8:00pm evening games possible.
  • Inter-town games may occur with Watchung Hills districts towns.

Seniors

7th & 8th Grades

Seniors Sandlot is an opportunity for 7th and 8th grade boys to play pick-up baseball games in a relaxed atmosphere.

  • Games will be played sandlot style–players will be split up into teams upon arrival and team rosters will vary week to week.
  • Coaches will provide instruction during the game.
  • Players will have opportunities to play multiple positions.
  • There are no uniforms or umpires. Just fun playing baseball!
